Get Involved at Canvey Island RUFC

"Our club is built on boots, heart, and helping hands."

As everyone who has been involved with any type of club will know, it doesn’t run by itself. It takes dedication, commitment and enthusiasm from volunteers across a broad spectrum to keep it all going. Fortunately, that’s exactly what we have here at Canvey Island RUFC.

However, we are always looking for new people to get involved - whether that's joining us as a new player, helping out with coaching, refereeing, volunteering behind the scenes - or simply showing (and shouting!) support from the sidelines - there is a place for you here!

We thrive on community, teamwork, and a shared passion for rugby. This isn’t just about joining a team. It’s about being part of something bigger.

Explore how you can get involved below. Each role matters. Every face is welcome. And every drink in the clubhouse tastes sweeter when you've helped shape our club.

Coaching at Canvey Island RUFC

Got drive, a loud voice, and questionable touchline dance moves?

Perfect — you’ll fit right in. Whether you’re a tactical genius or happy to help organise the sessions we run, we’re always on the lookout for energetic, committed coaches to steer our squads through scrums and sunshine.

New to coaching? No worries. We’ll help with training, mentoring. Veteran of the grassroots grind? Bring your wisdom and your best half-time pep talks.

It’s not about the whistles — it’s about the encouragement, laughs, and showing up week after week. Come teach, learn, and maybe even get your own club mug.

Refereeing

The whistle’s never easy — but it’s essential.

Without match officials, we don’t play, simple. Here at Canvey Island RUFC we recognise this fact and are happy to support those volunteers who are looking to support us by refereeing.

Referees keep the game honest, fair, and flowing. They’re often overlooked, occasionally challenged, but always respected (especially when you’ve done it yourself). If you are interested in becoming a Rugby Union Referee, let us know. Where suitable, we will fund your development and help you along your chosen path.

Volunteering

Behind every great club is an army of legends in hi-vis, aprons, and fixture folders.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of Canvey Island RUFC. From serving refreshments to running touchlines, painting posts to organizing kit — every hour donated adds up to something remarkable: a club that feels like home.

No experience needed. Just bring your time, your smile, and maybe a willingness to ask “milk and sugar?” 50 times. We’ll match you to a role that suits your strengths, and you’ll become part of a crew that’s as appreciated as any starting XV.

Whether it's once a season or every week, your help makes us better, stronger, and always ready to welcome the next generation.

Not Sure Where You Fit In?

It’s okay not to know yet — just start with a hello.

We get it. Maybe you’re new to the game, returning after years away, or just curious to see what goes on behind the posts. You don’t need boots, a clipboard, or a volunteer badge to belong here. Just a bit of curiosity and the courage to reach out.

Canvey Island RUFC is built on handshakes, first visits, and conversations that start with “I’m not sure…” Let’s chat about what you enjoy, what you’re curious about, and how you might get involved — in your own way, at your own pace.

You might surprise yourself. We certainly hope so.
